The Mother Of All Dyevushkas

While thoroughly enjoying this old Tina Turner video, I was reminded of the guidelines for Dyevushka Style.

Quote: ‘There is nothing too short or too tight.’ Check. ‘Natural colours are verboten.’ Check. ‘If foundation garments must be worn, they should be viewed . . . etc.’

The fundamentals of the dress code is what made the Ike and Tina Revue one of the sexiest acts of the Seventies.

The author of the world’s definitive piece on Dyevushka Style noted no distinction between night clothes and day clothes - in the same way that stage clothes can today be streetwear.

But some people still don’t get it. Least of all fashion consultants.

Consider this video, sponsored by Selfridge, in which a fashion consultant reverses all the golden rules and turns a dyev called Saskia into a lumpy dumpy frump.

You’re supposed to wiggle, not walk

Of course not. They’re accessories. Duh.

According to the fashion advisor, Saskia has ‘lovely toned arms‘.

Hilarious.
