Soviet Women Take Silver And Bronze
I had occasion to look at my all-time top three posts. That’s because the Copydude celebrates its first blogaversary this week.
The Bronze went to: ‘Why Russian Women Don’t Marry Russian Men‘. This shows the value of helpful and informative posts. Even Russian women read this to find out why they don’t do it.
The Silver was earned by the page, ‘Soviet Women FAQs‘. Although the butt of the joke is Western stereotyping, the majority of readers have in fact been export bride forums - who don’t find it all funny. Girls actually wrote in to protest that they do not use shoe polish as eye-black. Well, can I help it if they’re living in denial.
It was a stiletto heel race for most of the other leading places, due largely to dyevushka-propelled links from Carpetblogger. But the golden post - by a country mile - wasn’t really Russian at all - except for its link with Litvinenko. The current news blackout on Scaramella is only fuelling more suspicion about Litvinenko, and people are obviously scouring blogs for clues.
Despite the addiction in the blogosphere, I’m not sure stats have a lot to offer. I took a month off blogging in March and activity actually increased. Which suggests that, like spam, there’s a point where all these Internet feeds, feed stealers, crawlers and bots develop a life of their own. How else to explain why a top referring page is The Comic Book Lounge?

I wish there was a metric to measure Devyushka incest between our blogs.
Congratulations on your pending anniversary!
[...] Another Ranking of Russian Blogs Krusenstern posted a new ranking of Russian blogs (Google translation). This follows the recent Russophobe ranking. Krusenstern incorporated Technorati authority, google page rank, and Site-Meter page views. even the most important Russian blogs combined do not approach the statistics on blogs about other topics - this is a very small pond bloggers seem to be competing over. [...]
Thanks for the note, Andy.
And following a prompt on another post, thanks again for space and the interview on ‘Siberian Light‘.
Your lively comments section drew the memorable testimonial: “Copydude is at the bottom of the heap in terms of both readership and blog interest. He’s one of the most irresponsible and crazed in the Russia blogosphere.”
My Technorati ranking jumped ten points after that. I should probably work this into my blog header when I get the time.
Insults from LR are clearly to be highly prized… I’m somewhat saddened, to be honest, that I haven’t got one yet.
Although I do regularly get accused by others of being either:
(a) blindly anti-LR
(b) sycophantically pro-LR
Go figure.
Happy blogaversary! I clicked through from A Fistful of Euros and have been enjoying the Soviet Women FAQs. It’s a pity that irony translates so poorly to the internet. Nice work. I think I’ll stick around.
