Russian Grand Prix?

According to the Sunday Times, Russia will soon host a Formula 1 Grand Prix. The money will come from exiled Chelsea Football Club owner and F1 jet-setter, Roman Abramovich. It just needs Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov to sign off on the deal.

When did we hear this before? Many times, but how about March 2002. Quote:

‘The first Russian Grand Prix will take place in the summer of 2004, Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has told the BBC.’ The deal just needed to be signed off by Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov.

Russian motorsport has a curious, stop start, track record. The Russian A1 team entered the A1 GP series last year, but mysteriously disappeared without explanation after three races, leaving only its unfinished website and a Swiss e-mail address behind.

For glamour, it seems that Moscow will just have to make do with stiletto heel street races.
