Russia Belarus. Where Now?

Time for another Steve Earle song:
Another time, another place
Another wind to blame
Cover every track and trace
I’ll find you just the same
And even if we made our peace
And went our separate ways
You’d go West and I’d go East
And we’d meet here in this place
(Chorus)
Why do we do this to each other?
Guess we were always poison lovers

Interesting footnote from Charter ‘97
‘In the estimates of our Ministry of Finance, Putin continued, the entire budget of Belarus is about $14 billion. This means that our assistance accounts for about 41% of this sum. I am sure you will agree that this is a big amount. But let me repeat once again that this is the price Russia is prepared to pay for a smooth and friendly transition to market relations; this is Russia`s assistance to the fraternal Belarusian people.’
To Belarussians reading those statements a few times, it may suddenly seem less fraternal.
The president understands that the negotiations with Belarus aren`t over yet, and the real nightmare will begin when Lukashenko is supposed to keep up his side of the agreement, that is, in 2008.
